Born in 1982, Jonathan Adams aka Dj JB International, heralds from the sub-economic area of Paarl in the Western Cape . Having an esteemed passion for music, Jonathan commenced his music career in primary school where he undertook his first piano lesson and showed enthusiasm right into his senior schooling life. It was at this point, where his passion for music transgressed into the niche genre of club music and Dj-ing and it loomed large in his life from the word go. Fooling around with just two CD players, learning how to beat match at a friends house before heading home after school and playing at block parties and family birthday parties, Jonathan’s flair for music became a way of life!

At the age of 20, he worked at a family business and enrolled at Cape Audio College , where he studied towards a training course in Dj-ing. As fate had it, he met with Tony Smith aka Masta ‘G’, who determined his Dj influences.

Having completed his very first gig at The Lounge in Cape Town and after a few bloopers, JB International found his essence of life, ‘evoking emotion in people through the universal language of music’. In 2003 JB International entered and won the Baz Bar Dj competition at Cape Town’s infamous Dockside nightclub, a two night event where he out performed his competes. This was achieved by his ability to simply reload energy within a song, full stream ahead, mix after mix, scratch after scratch, followed by impeccable music selection. This was sure to leave judges speechless and a crowd ecstatic and ever-growing to date!

His dexterity on the decks are polished ‘up and tackle’ including the working world, ghettos, despair, revolt and trips. Having shadowed Tony Smith, Dj JB International is highly skilled in mixing, scratching, cutting, and chopping Hip Hop, RnB and house beats. With this repertoire there is no doubt that Dj JB International is living proof of a Djs dream realized. With much determination, he displayed his flair at the Knysna Oyester Fest all the way to the Redbull Club Tour.

In 2005 he hooked up with Groove coalition which was managed and owned by Giffith Jeppe aka Masta ‘G’. It was through Groove coalition that DJ JB International became an official Lucky Strike private events Dj. After garnering his skill through many late nights in the club scene, Dj JB International built his own studio in his hometown of Paarl.

In 2006, Monument Music Studios was launched, where he works exclusively with artists such as Mistah Nastaljah (D.O.S), Karin Engelbreght and Tarence of the Fire Balls to name just a few. In his rise to fame, 2008 marked a memorable one, as Dj JB International commenced a massive two month club tour in conjunction with HHTV CT model search, 10 clubs in none other than South Africa ’s beautiful Mother City , Cape Town . It is evident that the stage is set and it’s surely opening doors for this inimitable and socially committed club Dj, who has a record of esteemed feats.

Dj Jonathan International was recently invited by Redpepper Productions to feature on Shiz Niz on South Africa’s national broadcaster, e-Tv. Despite featuring on numerous screens before, this was his first exclusive television programme interview and an experience far beyond words could explain.
